Our Story

It began with a
whisper between
soul & clay.

A small, intimate studio in Bedford, Nova Scotia — built by a mother and daughter who found comfort, connection, and healing through clay.

Arezoo and Sonia at Secrets of Clay

There's something quietly grounding about working with clay. Maybe that's why people have been drawn to it for centuries — it's one of the few materials that forgives. Something that can be broken, reshaped, and given new life, over and over again. That spirit is the heart of everything we do here.

We are Arezoo & Sonia — a mother & daughter, and an Iranian-Canadian team who built this place together.

Co-founder · Ceramic Artist

Arezoo

Arezoo began working professionally with clay and handmade tiles in the early 2000s. After immigrating to Canada in 2013, she kept working with clay from home through those first years, and later chose to explore Western art more deeply at NSCAD University.

There, her research led her to develop ceramic clothing forms — transforming fabric into ceramic through sculpture — which became one of her most meaningful and recognized bodies of work.

the littlest member

Coca

Our littlest member joined the journey in 2025 — quickly becoming the light of the studio and a gentle companion for everyone who visits. With his sweet personality, he's part of the warmth, comfort, and joy of the place.

Sonia

Sonia began working with clay beside Arezoo at the age of fifteen — first as a simple passion and creative escape. Like many immigrant stories, life changed direction for a while after moving to Canada.

But clay found its way back into her hands again. In 2022, she and Arezoo opened Secrets of Clay together, with a dream of creating more than just a pottery studio — a warm place where people could slow down and reconnect with themselves.
